OpenBook is a Book you keep online. You write one page a day, in your own words. A new Book starts public, so the days in it can be read by anyone at all, with no account — on the Settings page you can narrow that to your followers only, or to nobody but yourself, and the change takes effect straight away.

By making an account you agree to what is on this page. If you do not agree with it, please do not use OpenBook.

You need to be at least 13 years old. Keep your password to yourself — anything written from your account is treated as written by you. Tell us at once if you think somebody else has got in.

Everything you write and every picture you add belongs to you, not to us. You give us only the permission we need to store it and to show it back to you, and to show it to the people you have chosen to let read it. Nothing else. Narrow that choice again and we stop showing it.

These three rules are what makes OpenBook a Book and not a website:

• Only today can be written. There is no way to write on a day that has already passed, and no way to change its date.
• Yesterday is sealed. Once a day is over, its page can no longer be edited. That is the point of keeping a Book honestly, and it is not a setting.
• Tearing a page out is final. The writing, the pictures, the notes and the seals are destroyed straight away. There is no bin, no undo and no way for anyone — including us — to bring it back.

Do not use OpenBook to:

• break the law, or help anybody else break it
• post something that is not yours to post, or that you have no right to share
• threaten, harass or impersonate somebody
• put another person's private information on a page other people can read
• attack the site, or try to reach Books that were not made readable to you

If you break these rules we may make a page private, suspend the account, or close it. Where we can, we will tell you why first.

OpenBook is free to use. Decoration for your pages will one day be bought with Ink, the currency inside the app; nothing can be bought yet, and nothing is charged to anyone today. When that changes, the price will be shown before you agree to it, and this page will be updated first.

You can delete your account yourself at any time, at the bottom of the Settings page, and everything in it goes with it. The Privacy page says exactly what that takes and how final it is. We may close an account that breaks the rules above, or one that has been abandoned for a very long time, and we will write to you before we do.

We look after your Book carefully and keep backups, but OpenBook is provided as it is. We cannot promise the site will never be down, and we cannot be held responsible for a loss beyond what the law requires of us. Nothing here takes away rights you have as a consumer.

A page you tear out is the one thing we genuinely cannot get back for you, because destroying it properly is the promise.

The date at the top is the last time anything here changed. If we change something that matters, we will tell you by email before it takes effect. Carrying on using OpenBook after that means you accept the new version.
